Shake Shack in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, PA

The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is perfect for children ages two to five.

Living with Hoarders in Brooklyn

This is why you should think long and hard before living with roommates in Brooklyn, even when the apartment is a relatively spacious two bedrooms. Nothing here is mine except the bicycle. I feel claustrophobic just walking to the kitchen.

In and around the Hotel Krone in Zürich, Switzerland

Guesthouse Gertrudstrasse, Zürich, Switzerland

Here are some more photos of the hotel area, plus a bottle of Coca-Cola Light. Gertrud-Strasse is not located in the most convenient part of Zurich, but the hotel is cute and comfy.

The trick here was that I got my room key by inputting a code (found in my booking confirmation email) any time after three. The problem? I was there before noon. I told my friend that I'd check in, freshen up, and he should swing by around three or four. But of course I couldn't even get into the building until the afternoon. I ended up drinking and using free wi-fi at a bar/cafe a few blocks away (it was way too cold to wait outside). If you stay in one of these budget guesthouses with a lockbox, I recommend that you understand how and when they operate before you arrive in Zurich.

Glacier Express to the Swiss Alps

This was the Glacier Express train (and later, bus) ride to the spa resort at Vals, Switzerland. My poor photography doesn't even begin to capture the beauty of the Swiss mountainous countryside. The spa itself was amazing, but being immersed in water or steam the entire time, I didn't take any photos inside.

Guesthouse Gertrudstrasse, Zürich, Switzerland

This affordable hotel wasn't very conveniently located, but was charming. The free wi-fi never worked properly for me (though my friend got it fine on his local phone).

There was one full-sized bed and a table with two chairs. The charm came largely from the balcony, which overlooked the street and had a table with two chairs.
